Summary: Scully finds herself in a major problem and turns to her partner and best friend for help. And he's with her every step of the way.

Mulder's Apartment
Washington DC

I ran through the door clutching two grocery bags full mainly of microwave meals for one, as I heard the phone ringing. I quickly flung the bags onto the kitchen counter and sprinted across the apartment as I heard the machine kick in.

"Don't hang up!" I shouted as I heard my own voice saying "Leave a message after the tone," I was reaching for the receiver as I heard Scully crying softly down the phone while pleading "Mulder It's me. Please pick up!"

I could hear the desperation in my partners' voice, and it was tearing me apart. Without hesitating for another moment I snatched up the receiver.

"I'm here Scully, I'm here. What's wrong?" I ask soothingly.

"Can you come over? I know it's late, but..." she whispered still crying and sniffling gently "I really need you!"

"Of course I can come over," I said softly " give me fifteen minutes, Ok?" I asked softly.

"Ok," she whispered in an almost child like voice. "I'll be right there," I said hanging up and grabbing my car keys as I ran out to my car, in sheer desperation.

Ten Minutes Later
Scully's Apartment

I had made it to her in record time, all I could think about was the fact that she needed me. I reached her apartment building, double-parking my ford, not caring if I got a ticket. I ran up the steps and down the hallway to her door, letting myself in with my key. And there she was sitting on her sofa wearing a pair of old jeans and a faded gray Quantico T-Shirt, her head in her hands. Red hair falling around them concealing her silent sobs, leaving only the tell tale racking of her tiny shoulders as a signal of her pain.

On hearing my arrival she looked up at me. Her eyes were puffy and bloodshot, and her cheeks were glistening. I could tell that she'd been crying for a very long time. I dropped my keys on the end table by the door and moved over to her, sitting next to her on the sofa, enveloping her into a protective embrace. She nuzzled her head against my chest, I placed a gentle kiss on the top of her head and I could already feel her tears seeping through the smooth cotton of my blue dress shirt. "Scully, what's wrong?" I asked softly reaching over to her coffee table, grabbing a couple of tissues and handing them to her.

"Oh, Mulder. I've been so stupid!" she whispered sniffling a little as she wiped her bleary eyes.

"Scully, everyone does stupid things sometimes! Trust me I know from experience!" I said pulling her away from me. She smiled as I wiped at her salty tears with my thumbs.

"Not this stupid!" she exclaimed. I gave her my best skeptical look, raising one eyebrow and pursing my lips tightly.

"No Mulder, this is monumentally stupid!" she closed her eyes and sighed.

"What is it, Scully?" I asked softly releasing my hold on her.

"Umm... I don't know where to start!" she exclaimed.

"How about the beginning?" I asked reaching out to stroke her hair away from her tear stained face.

"Well, just before my birthday I was having the birthday blues! You know, I was worrying that I was getting over the Hill. You know, worrying about getting old alone. You know that feeling?" she asked sarcastically.

"Yeah, pretty well," I exclaimed "been getting it since I was fifteen!" She smiled sweetly at me through her tears.

"Well, I was in the lab running some DNA tests for a case," she continued "I was working with Agent Pendrell. He picked up on how I was feeling and asked me out for a drink. I was flattered," I nodded carefully, I could see where this was going and I didn't like it one little bit

"I'm not used to that sort of attention, so I went. I drank a bit too much and then..." she trailed off, looking down at her hands, avoiding my eye contact "Well, one thing led to another," I reached over and gently placed a finger under her chin, raising her face, forcing her to look into my eyes

"There's no need to be ashamed!" I whispered smiling.

"Isn't there?" she asked. "I behaved so badly the next morning, ranting and raving about how he 'took advantage of me'" she let a single tear roll down her pale cheek. "I knew he hadn't, I'd wanted to at the time. He was so nice about it too. He apologized even when he knew he'd done nothing wrong, and then agreed not to tell anyone about it. He was a perfect gentleman!" I reached over and took her hand.

"He was a great guy, Scully!" I exclaimed.

"I know, that's why I felt so guilty!" she sobbed "I was going to make it up to him, apologize for my terrible behavior, and then that man..." she trailed off more tears pouring from her already red and bloodshot eyes.

"Shot him," I said finishing the painful sentence for her "God, Scully. I'm so sorry!" I said compassionately, rubbing the top of her hand gently with my thumb. "I had no idea! It must be tearing you apart!"

"It was just about getting bearable, Mulder!" she shook her head "and now..."

"What's now?" I interrupted. I hadn't even thought that there could be more. She looked at me disbelievingly and began to laugh, quite hysterically.

"Whatever it is I'm glad you find this so funny!" I said pouting, although I was internally relishing the sight of her laughter.

She ran her fingers through her gorgeous flame red hair, brushing it away from her face. Her expression suddenly became serious.

"I'm pregnant, Mulder," she said softly.

I gazed into her big blue eyes, running it over in my mind. Trying to let it sink in, to know what to say, to make it better for her.

"You're going to be a Mommy?" I ask lamely. Scully nods gently. "Are you happy about it? I know how much you've always wanted children."

Scully sighed, "I'm not sure how I feel about it yet. I thought that I could never have children, so of course I'm happy. But Pendrell's dead! My baby will never know its father!" she said a sad expression on her face.

"You won't have to do this alone, you know!" I said sincerely "I'll be there for you every step of the way. I'll help you with anything you need!"

Scully smiled holding out her arms, and hugging me tightly.

"I know you will," she whispered. "But you really don't have to, this is my problem," she looked deep into my eyes. Silently thanking me, suddenly I felt embarrassed and turned away my head, watching intently as I wrung my hands together.

"You're all I've got, you're my family, the only person who's ever really cared about me, except my sister," she reached over and cupped my cheek gently in her hand, turning my gaze back into her eyes.

"I won't let you go through this alone. I'll be there for you in whatever capacity you need me," I whispered nervously watching tears of joy form in her perfect cerulean blue eyes. "I'll do anything for you," I whispered.

She smiled. "Even change dirty diapers?" she asked, an eyebrow raised.

I sighed sarcastically. "Well, I guess a man's got to do what a man's got to do!"

"Thank you, Mulder. You Have no idea what this means to me!" I looked up and locked eyes with her; I could see the blue depths welling up again, this time with tears of joy. I reached out to her and enfolded her small body into my embrace. She rested her head on my shoulder. Whispering, "What did I do to deserve you?" into my ear.

"You were just you, Scully," I replied, closing my eyes and kissing her temple softly, "You were just you!"
