Title: Night Calls Summary: Night calls.
2am Buttercup, Texas Someone had called in about a car being parked on the side of a back road, so I was sent out to investigate. When I neared the car, I could see enough to know what was going on--even through the steamed up window. Nothing steams up a car window than a couple making out. Joanna and I had steamed up plenty windows in our time...although, not in years. I also know nothing cools you down than having a cop thumped on your car window and reading you the safe sex riot act. To my surprise, the couple that tumbled out was not some hormone-challenged teenagers, but a couple almost old enough to be my parents! I stared at them, astonished, as they hastily straightened out their clothes. The man looked sheepish. The woman turned a bright red. They both looked sort of familiar, although I was pretty sure I've never meet them before. "Uh, officer--" "Officer Peterson." "Officer Peterson--," the man said, "I--uh--know what it looks like--" I put my sternest face on, even though I wanted to laugh. "You shouldn't be doing that in public," I said sternly. The man nodded nervously. "Yes, of course--" "I will let you off with a warning this time," I said. The man's head jerked up and down. "Don't let it happen again," I added. "Of course, officer."
Buttercup Lake A call came in. A silent alarm in on the summer cottages had been tripped by the lake. I wasn't too worried since alarms went off there with regularity, but just in case I called for backup. O'Reilly meet me there and we both went in to check on the cottage. It was the same couple from the parked car earlier that night! The woman quickly stuffed something that suspiciously looked like a pair of underwear under the couch before she scrambled up to stand next to the man. The man and woman looked at each other, then at me and O'Reilly. The man cleared his throat. "Officer Peterson, it's good to see you again." O'Reilly turned to me with a questioning look. I shot him "I tell you later" look. "You must be wondering--why we were here?" the man asked hesitantly. I nodded, oh, so solemnly. "Feeding the fish?" he supplied helpfully. I shook my head. The man sighed. The woman stepped forward and spoke for the first time, her voice crisp and nonsense, "Officer Peterson, this cottage belongs to an old friend of ours--a Walter Skinner--" Walter Skinner? Walter Skinner. I've heard of him before. I think he was a personal friend of the Chief. Wasn't Walter Skinner a retired Deputy Director of the FBI? "If you contact him, he will tell you that," she went on. She produced a key. "We have the key. We just forgot to turn off the interior alarm when we came in." My eyes were caught by her wedding band glinting on her finger. I glanced at his. He was also wearing a wedding band. Hanky panky on the side? The man caught my look. He seemed to realize what I was thinking. He ducked his head and said, "Uh--we're married...to each other--" "I need to see some identification please," I said. The man turned to look at the woman. She lifted her brow and shrugged. "Sure," the man said. He picks up their jackets from the floor and roots through before pulling out two wallets and handed them to me. I opened them up and my mouth dropped. No wonder they looked familiar! "You're the Chief's parents!" I blurted out. I can hear O'Reilly snorting with laughter behind me. The man looked even more embarrassed. "Yeah, William Mulder is our son," he admitted. "We're just visiting here for the week. It's just so crowded in the house--we just wanted--wanted to--" I know what they wanted to do. Then he leaned forward and asked hopefully, "Would it be too much to ask for you two not to tell Will about this? I mean...he'll be a bit peeved at us for..." "Sure, Mr. Mulder," I said with an absolute straight face. I gave them their wallets back. "We won't tell Chief about what happened if you promised we won't be get any more calls about the two of you." "Oh, I promise!" Chief's Dad said with great deal of sincerity. "Okay, we're letting you go," I said. "But don't let it happen again, Mr. Mulder." "Thank you very much, Officer Peterson." He handed his wife her jacket and began leading her out, his hand resting against the small of her back. "You're welcome, Mr. Mulder," I said. Then, "Mr. Mulder?" He turned to looked at me questioningly. "You can always get a hotel room," I suggested. His eyes lite up. "A hotel room?" He turned to his wife and waggled his brows. "What you think about that, Scully?" She blushed and smacked him the arm. "Shush, Mulder! Not now!" Then she said to us. "Thank you very much." "No problem, Mrs. Mulder, " I said. I can hear them arguing about the hotel room as they left. O'Reilly smirked. "So those were the Chief's parents?" "Yep," I said. "Wished I could see his face when we told him we caught his parents making out--" "Well, actually, I caught them parking earlier." "No way! Chief's parents! Jeez, they're what--sixties or something!" I laughed. "Actually, older than that. Chief told me that they started late." "Jeez!" Yeah, Jeez! Still steaming up car windows at their age. I shook my head, chuckling. Man, how I wished I could see the Chief's face! Fini
*Author's Note* So what if it's silly! So what that they are out of character! So what there's no plot! That's why it's called a PWP! No, seriously...I've been pretty down about Season 9 spoilers. I am not a very happy camper about what they are doing to Mulder's character. No, not a happy camper at all. So I figured if 1013 could write something so out-of-character than I could to! I am really, really hoping that the season 9 spoilers are groundless-- Oh, well... Constructive feedback is always welcome! Myriss myriss1013@yahoo.com P.S. I don't think there is a Buttercup, Texas or a Buttercup Lake. My apologies if there is.
