Summary: A mans daughters are going missing.

Her heart was beating faster than she ran. Her bare feet felt bruised and her blue nightgown was drenched with swampy water. Her hair was full of tangles and was greasy from her sweat that poured down her face. Her lungs were begging for air. She stopped running and leaned against a tree as she caught her breath. She took long deep breaths, telling herself that she had gotten away from the evil demon. Suddenly, in the distance she heard yelling which caused her to start running again.

"Nikki!!!" The man's voice grew louder and louder as he screamed.

"Nikki, where the hell are you?! I didn't mean it, I was kidding."

Nikki stopped dead in her tracks, not because of what he just said, but because of a giant hole in front of her. Nikki brushed away her tears and bent down beside the hole to get a better look. The hole looked about 6 feet deep and 2 feet wide. She heard a branch break behind her and she turned around, but it was too late. Nikki hit the ground hard causing her to breathe harder. She looked up at the man who had pushed her in.

"Daddy, please help me out," she begged.

"Gladly," he took a shovel and started to bury her with the dirt.

"Daddy!! No!!"

"Told you, you would be with your mother soon!! This is what you get for not listening to me!!"

Darkness filled Nikki's eyes for the first time in days. Her eyes slowly closed and her body finally relaxed as it became hard to breathe.

** The door opened and Scully walked in.

"Hey, just the person I was looking for," Mulder said with a grin.

"Well, good morning to you too. What's up?" Scully said walking over to where Mulder was standing.

"Here read that." He handed Scully a case file.

Scully read it over and looked up from the file somewhat confused.

"How did she die? I'm not too clear."

"She was running from something and the ground gave out beneath her and buried her alive."

"You know what she was running from?"

"Don't know. That happened two years ago. Investigators gave up on it being a murder case and called it accidental."

"You don't think its murder do you?" Scully said raising an eyebrow."I believe it could have been accidental. They was a lot of rain, which caused a lot of swampiness in the forest." Mulder walked over to his desk and pulled out a file from his file cabinet. "But there is a case that is related to this one, which makes the case more weirder. Robyn Carter left behind a husband and seven daughters. Over the last two months, he has reported three girls missing and one more yesterday making it four."

** Mulder and Scully pulled up to a white county-styled home. They got out and knocked on the door. A little girl answered the door shyly, hiding half way behind the door.

"Hi there, is your daddy home?" asked Scully.

The girl went up half way up the stairs and yelled "Daddy door!!"

"Quiet Kate-Lynn, daddy is right here," The man led his daughter down the stairs and into the living room.

"Can I help you? Are you lost?" he asked as he came to the door.

"Are you Jim Carter?" asked Scully.

"Yes, I am and you wou....?

"Mr. Carter, we're with the FBI we would like to talk to you about your missing daughters," Mulder interrupted.

"Mr. Carter, can you tell us any information that might help to find your daughters?" asked Scully. "They couldn't have run away, if that's what you are thinking. There isn't a house around here for miles. Its all forest and swamp."

"Could they be out in the forest?" asked Mulder.

"Police already searched the area, but I suppose they could have missed a section."

"Would it be alright, if agent Scully and I go check it out?"

"I guess so, I see no harm in that. But you Miss. Scully, you might want to change your clothes. Probably you both should. I'll go get some clothes." Mr. Carter stood up and went up stairs.

"Did you see his eyes, Mulder? They looked like cold and clear. He gave me the chills. He didn't seem that worried about his kids either," Scully said as she and Mulder walked hand in hand in the swampy forest.

"They did look pretty spooky didn't they?"

"You think they did something with the girls?" Scully asked as she walked over a fallen log.

"Well, you never know with people today." Mulder gripped Scully's hand tighter as she slid in the mucky water.

"Mulder, look."

On the ground was a piece of blue cloth.

"Try to remember how we got here. We'll get the local PD down here for a search," Mulder said as he took off his jacket to leave as a marker.

"Let's go back, it's almost dark," Mulder said as he got up and led Scully through the forest.

** The rain poured on the Carters' window. Lightening and thunder crackled in the far distance. Mulder sat up from his bed and placed his feet on the cool floor. He got up and folded the blankets up so the coolness wouldn't bother Scully. He went down the hall and entered the bathroom and closed the door. On the way back to the bedroom, the saw a light shining downstairs and heard someone talking and another person crying.

"Mulder, what are you doing?" asked a sleepy Scully.

"I'm sorry I didn't mean to wake you, I heard something so I was checking it out."

"Come on, it's late," Scully said, leading Mulder to the bedroom.

"Go to sleep" she said as she kissed him on the forehead.

He sighed "I can't, something is happening in that forest."

"What do you want us to do?"

Her heart was beating faster then her feet as she ran into the middle of the swampy forest. Her face bruised and her lips swollen and her inside of her mouth tasted like hot salty blood. Her eyes full of tears as she ran. The tears cause her eyes to blur and her body could barely maintain anymore running. She tripped and fell over a log.

"Owww...!!" she cried out. She grabbed her ankle in great pain and tried to stand up only to fall again. Her ankle was now broken and she could hear her father yelling in the distance.

"There is no escape, Lily! Give up, you can't run forever, I'll find you!!"

Lily began to crawl on her knees going as fast as she could go on them. In a distance she could see a jacket laid out in the middle of no where.

She quickly crawled to it. "Hello?? Anyone out here?? Agent Mulder?? Agent Scully?? Help please!!"

She began to look around. This place looks so familiar she thought to herself. Suddenly, she saw the wreath hanging by a near-by tree where her mother had died. She crawled to the tree and laid head on the trunk and began to pray. Her prayer began more of a chant as she heard her father coming closer. She went behind the tree and closed her eyes. A cold strong hand grabbed her and pulled out from behind the tree.

"It's time to join your mother, Lily!!! It's what she would have wanted. Buried together forever."

Lily began to kick with all her strength trying to get out of his grip. He dragged her to an empty grave and threw her in.

"You'll thank me in heaven, my child." He began burying her with the dirt. She began to choke because of loss of oxygen. Her eyes felt heavy and they slowly began to close.

Carter turned around to see Mulder and Scully.

"Put the shovel down!!"

"She belongs with her mother!! Don't you see, I can't take care of her, I want to make her mother proud of them and myself," he picked the shovel and began burying quicker.

A gunshot went off and Carter fell into the grave next to the girl."Get me out!!! Get me out!!" screamed Lily.

Mulder and Scully helped the girl out and called for an ambulance. Mulder carried Lily while Scully led the way.

Washington D.C Mulder sat across from Scully who was filling in a report. "Why do you think he did all this to his children?" she asked.

"I think...he could have been angry and furious for his wife death. He began to abuse his children and one day I think he realized what he was doing to them. So he began by digging up the earth and began to bury his kids and maybe in the end try to bury himself. He wanted everyone together as a family, he wanted the pain to stop and this was the only way he felt like they were. He felt he wasn't good enough to take care of them."

Rain pour over Kate-Lynn's body as she walked through the swampy forest. She place a pink teddy bear on top of the once dug hole and watched as one of her sister's hand poked through the soil. Rain trickled over the small hand as she reached through the soil and grabbed the edge of the hole looking for her pink teddy bear.

When she found it she pulled it into the hole and through the soil. Kate-Lynn smiled and turned back to the house.

The End

Author Notes: It's amazing what you can do when You have a sleeping disorder. This story is unlike my other two. I mixed in my nightmares and my experience with abuse. I wanted a spooky story that was like the old XF. Thanks to Lisa and Sarah for betaing, thanks Falconer for suggesting and helping me with different things for me.
