Title: The Baby Summary: Mulder finds a surprise at his front door and needs Scully's assistance.
Fox Mulder's Apartment Fox Mulder was peacefully sleeping under his soft warm sheets of his water bed when he was awakened by a soft tapping at the door of his apartment.
Mulder's Apartment Mulder heard the light footsteps of Scully coming down his hallway. His hallway. Those two words send chills up and down his spine. The place where he almost lost her. Where he had opened his soul to her. Where he had even almost kissed her. Where *she* had almost let him. Damned bee! He let her in. She was wearing blue jean shorts and a tank top. He was staring. Fortunately, she didn't notice and immediately scurried across the room to the screaming baby. "Mulder! You just left it here? Didn't you even think about holding...Ummmmm...her??" She noticed that he looked hurt by this. He was displaying that puppy dog face again. The face she couldn't ignore. His lower lip was protruding above his upper lip. He looked like an innocent little boy. "Okay Mulder, parenting 1.1, when ever a baby cries that usually means that it is either hungry, sleepy, or needs to be held." I wish I was a baby, Mulder thought then when I cried you might hold me. The baby continued to cry and cry. Scully sat next to Mulder on the couch with the baby in her arms. He could tell that she was tired. The past few weeks had been really tough on both of them. Surprisingly, the baby began to calm down. "Here Mulder, hold her." She moved closer to him. Their knees were now touching. He could smell the shampoo that she had used to wash her hair. Strawberry. The same scent that he could smell on his clothes every day when he came home from work. "But she doesn't like me." "She doesn't know you. Take her." He took the baby in his arms. The baby once again began to wimper. Mulder handed her back to Scully. "Well, Scully. There goes being a daddy. I'd never survive it." He stood up to walk away but Scully grabbed his hand. He flushed. "You'll make a great daddy someday Mulder. I know you will." She pulled him down onto the couch and sat down in front of him. "Here. I'm gonna hold her but I want you to talk to her." Mulder did this. But, the baby was still crying. He noticed that Scully was beginning to dose off. Her head was on his shoulder. She was sleeping. God she is beautiful, he thought. The baby was still whimpering but he didn't want its crying to wake up Scully. He carefully picked up the baby, now his arms were completely around the sleeping Scully, and began to sing to her. "Sorry, I never told you. Never had I imagined Then he fell asleep. As did the baby.
9am Saturday Morning The first thing Mulder noticed when he awoke was Scully. He was encompassed by her. And that is how he liked it. Her breathing was slow and steady. It was amazing what affect she had on him. He was suddenly overcome by the want to kiss her. He had wanted to do this ever since he could remember. He had gotten one chance before but he had blown it. The bee had stung her before he had even grazed her lips. "To Hell with it." He kissed her. She tasted like frozen grapes. "Mulder?" "Yeah?" Did she know? "The baby slept through the night." Thank God she hadn't caught him. "I know. Thanks to you." "And you. You're gonna make a great daddy some day." And you a great mom. He thought. There was a knock at the door. A woman in her 20s stood there. She explained that she was the mother of the child and had made an awful mistake in giving up her daughter. Mulder and Scully said that they understood and handed the child back to the woman. She left. "Well, Mulder, I'd better be going. See you on Monday." "Yeah Scully, and thank you." "You're welcome, Mulder." Good bye my angel, Mulder mused. Scully was half way out the door when she whispered, "Oh yeah, you're a really good kisser too." She left. Mulder's mouth hung open. The End
