Title: A Simple Twist of Faith Disclaimer: Not mine, and if they were, they would always be together. Grr... Summary: Mulder and Scully have a little talk about faith. "Scully, there's something I've been meaning to ask you for a long time." "What's that?" "Well, you're a doctor *and* a scientist, yet you've always been able to keep some sort of faith." "Yes, I'm quite the acrobat Mulder." "I'm serious, Scully. How do you do it?" Scully smiled contendedly, and stroked their baby's head softly as it slept in her lap. "Mulder, I can't explain it. All I know is if I hadn't of kept that faith all these years, I wouldn't have made it." "Made it?" "Yes, made it. I wouldn't be sitting here right now." This time it was Mulder's turn to smile. He placed his hand on his child's chest and felt the heart beat strong under his fingertips. "I wouldn't either," he replied after a few moments. "There were times I questioned it," Scully continued. "I doubted myself so many times. Science or faith. Faith or science. Daniel always told me I could never have both..." She suddenly trailed off, as she felt Mulder's body become slightly tense beside her. She put a reassuring hand on his thigh, and patted it softly. "But he was wrong," he whispered, leaning down to kiss their sleeping child on the forehead. "Yes, he was." "Mulder?" "Yeah?" "How did you manage to keep your faith?" "I didn't have to. You kept it for me." Scully smiled to herself as she delicately played with her baby's tiny toes. "And now you have a whole other person to retain it, when I'm not here of course," she grinned. "Maybe even more someday. What do you think Scully?" Scully rolled her eyes playfully. "One miracle at a time Mulder." Mulder laughed and joined his partner in playing with the baby's feet. "Oh, I have faith Scully. You just wait...you just wait." ~*~*~*~*~*~
