Title - The Reoccurring Nightmare II - Full Circle Summary – The nightmare continues... I remember reading Greek tragedies in high school and how I laughed at the characters. Did they honestly believe they could fight the future? I mean, if a soothsayer comes to you and tells you that your kid is going to grow up to marry his mother and kill his father, do you really think sending the kid to the next town over is going to solve the problem? Its been many years since I've been in high school and I'm not laughing anymore. Skinner was there when I gave birth to Christopher. Walter was still feeling guilty about Mulder's disappearance. I understood what he was going through, I felt just as helpless when Mulder went missing in the desert. I think being with me every step of the way was his penance. The Gunmen stayed in the waiting room. Byers fainted anyway. Frohike gave me flowers. It was sweet of him. I remember Skinner had gone back to the office for a little while and the Gunmen had gone home and I was taking a nap when Krychek showed up. At the sight of him I hit the call button. But of course the male nurse was off flirting or something. So I reached for my holster which was empty, they made me check my weapon at the entrance. I screamed at him to leave my baby alone. He put his finger to his lips as he hissed, "I'm not here to take Christopher. There's a greater evil threatening him." I rolled my eyes and I played along, "And *what* could possibly be worse than you?" "Mulder," he said in a serious voice. I burst out laughing, "You mean, you're trying to tell me that the father of my child is a *threat*?" He glared at me, "Listen to me you bitch, I'm trying to help you. The smoking man...I killed the bastard trying to stop this from happening but he was nine freakin lives or something..." He was interrupted by the entrance of the burly nurse who gruffly asked what I wanted. "I have an unwanted visitor." I pointed at Krychek, "I want him *out*." As the nurse grabbed Krychek by the shoulder and dragged him down the hall Krychek began to yell "No you're making a mistake...Scully you have to listen to me. He's not who you think he is anymore. He's not the same. Sculleee." His final yell of my name sent a shudder down my spine. Christopher was four months old when Mulder returned. When I say returned I mean he showed up on my doorstep at three in the morning yelling, "Scu-le, I'm he-re." He thought it was funny. I'll never forget the night of my epiphany. No matter how much I'd like to. It was after midnight and Chris began to wail, I rolled over to find that Mulder wasn't there. I figured he had gone to comfort Chris. Chris continued to cry for another minute or so before I decided to check on Mulder and Chris. I found Chris laying in his crib bawling. Mulder wasn't with him. I picked up Chris and slowly began to walk to the kitchen. Mulder wasn't there. And as I walked further I found that he wasn't anywhere. He was gone. Chris had fallen asleep again and I put him back in his crib and walked back to the kitchen to wait. Mulder did not come home for three hours. I sat at the kitchen table for three hours worrying. Needless to say he looked shocked when he saw me. He put his hands in his pockets and tried to play cute, "Hey Scully what's a girl like you..." "Cut the crap Mulder. Where have you been?" He didn't answer me. Through teary eyes I said, "Mulder, I smell smoke. *Please* tell me you haven't been with who I'm thinking of." I stood up to face him. He hugged my rigid frame as he murmured, "It's ok Scully, really, it's for the best. Things have changed. I need him as much as he needs me. It's ok." I looked up into his eyes and saw that he had changed. I don't know what they did to him when they took him but the man they gave back to me was not the man I fell in love with. The man who stood before me that night was a man who would deal with the devil. Somehow I found the strength to speak, "Get out." He took a step back and put his hands up, "No, you don't understand. We can't save the world Scully. Don't you see? If we do it your way it'll be all or nothing and the only possibility is nothing. You haven't seen what I've seen, Scully. If we help him we'll be able to save *something*. We'll always have each other and Christopher. Always." "You're going to let the world die aren't you?" He just shook his head. "Get out." I waited until he left and then collapsed on the kitchen table, sobbing. I was pregnant. The next morning I told Skinner my story. He made a promise to me that he would take care of me and protect me from Mulder. We got married the next week. We stayed and helped the sick when the process of colonization began. We continued to fight it. I don't think Christopher even remembers his father, he always calls Walter daddy. I named my daughter Hilde. St. Hildegarde Von Bingen was one the most powerful abbesses in the Middle Ages. St. Hildegarde was a composer, a writer, a healer and a scientist in an era when misogyny was prevalent. She survived in a very dark time, like my daughter. Now I stand here in the main hall, holding on to Walter as tightly as I can, lightening crashing over our heads. I never would have expected this. The bastard wants our daughter for his tests. He's going to preserve her, make sure she lives through colonization...By letting everyone else die...I cry harder because I have no idea what to do. I wonder if Mulder knows what he's done, what he's become...That he has just given his own son the same nightmare which haunted his sleep so many years ago...Mulder has worked for half a century only to come full circle...This is a like a bad case of deja vous...A bad dream that I can't wake up from...A reoccurring nightmare... ....I was having a horrible nightmare when I heard someone enter my hospital room and my eyes snapped open. Who I saw made me pound the call button and reach for my empty holster. I screamed at Krychek to leave my baby alone. He put his fingers to his lips as he hissed, "I'm not here to take your child. There's a great evil threatening him..." The End If you're going "What the hell???" That's good. I was going for that this time. :) Requests for explanations and/or feedback can be sent to The_Lady_Disdain@mailcity.com I'd like to thank everyone who responded to The Reoccurring Nightmare, without your kind feedback I never would have wrote this!
