Summary: Scully is taken ill again which leads to some serious Mulder angst. Oh and Skinner finds out!

Authors notes: This is the third installment of the Dreams Come True series. If you haven't read the first 2 (which are available at Goss) then you'll be quite lost. I didn't know whether or not to continue but I had some very encouraging feedback.

This installment went in a completely different direction to what I thought it would so I hope you like it.

On with the show...

Scully's apartment 8:00

Over a week had passed since the events at Mrs. Scully's house. Scully hadn't spoken to her brother Bill since. Her mom had called every day to see how she was doing and every day Scully had given the same answer that she was "fine." The truth was, however, that she wasn't fine. Her morning sickness had gotten quite bad and she had been off work sick.

Today was Scully's first day back at work since she had found out she was pregnant. She had just been sick for the third time and Mulder was starting to get worried,

"Maybe you should take a few more days off, Scully."

"I'll be okay, Mulder. If I'm going to take days off every time this pregnancy makes me feel ill or tired or whatever then I may as well take the whole 9 months off."

Mulder thought that was actually a very good idea but decided not to say anything. He was pulled from his thoughts by Scully telling him that they were going to be late.

FBI Headquarters 9:15

When they had arrived in the office there was a message from Skinner requesting their presence at a case briefing. They were now sat around the big conference table in Skinner's office, listening to Agent Roberts from Violent Crimes talking about the murders of 4 people in Illinois. Scully's mind was not, however, on the case, it was on the growing queasiness in her stomach. When she could no longer stand it she shot a glance across at Mulder stood up and excused herself from the meeting.

Mulder sensed what was wrong and got up, "Excuse me, sir," was all he said before he followed Scully out the door. He found her crumpled up on the floor of the ladies room with her head over the toilet. He rushed to her side and held her hair away from her face while she was being sick.

"It's okay Scully, it's going to be okay."

"I'm scared Mulder, the morning sickness is just getting worse and I don't know what to do."

"Come on let's get you home, can you stand?" Scully tried to stand up but she just went limp in Mulder's arms. He placed her gently on the floor and ran out of the ladies room where Skinner was waiting.

"Call an ambulance Sir, she needs to get to a hospital! NOW!"

By now everyone had come out of his or her office to see what all the shouting was about.

"Mulder, what's wrong with her?" Skinner asked as he pulled out his cell phone and dialed 911.

"She's passed out sir." When Skinner didn't look to concerned Mulder remembered that he didn't know their secret. He looked his boss straight in the eye and said, "She's pregnant Sir."

Mulder then turned and headed back in to the ladies room to wait with Scully.

The EMT's didn't take long to arrive and after a quick briefing from both Skinner and Mulder, Scully was on an IV drip and was being carried out on a stretcher. Scully awoke as they were exiting the elevator on the ground floor, with Skinner following close behind. Mulder smiled at her and for a moment he forgot where he was and whom he was with.

"Hey sweetheart, don't do that. You really scared me back there; I thought I was going to lose you." Scully just smiled sweetly at him.

As they exited the building Skinner stopped Mulder and said,

"I think we need to talk, don't you?"

"Yes sir, we do."

"Good. I'll call in on Scully later. Keep me appraised of her condition." Mulder nodded. "Oh and Agent Mulder," Mulder turned around and saw a small smile creep across the AD's lips, "congratulations."

Georgetown Medical Centre 10:20

Maggie Scully entered her daughter's hospital room to find that Scully was sleeping and that Mulder was nowhere to be found. This worried her so she went to the nurses' station to enquire about his whereabouts.

"My daughter Dana Scully was admitted earlier this morning she's in room 254. I was just wondering if you had seen her partner, Fox Mulder."

The nurse looked up at her and replied with a smile, "Oh I remember him, he doesn't exactly have a name you could forget does he?" Maggie forced a smile as the nurse continued, "The last time I saw him he was headed outside. He looked kind of spooked."

"Thank you," said Maggie as she walked towards the exit. She looked all around the grounds and finally spotted him sat under a large oak tree. She walked over.

"Fox, what's wrong?" He looked up at her and his eyes were filled with fear.

"It's all my fault!" He sobbed and Maggie took his hand

"What is, Fox?"

"The fact that Scully's is here."

"What are you talking about? Mr. Skinner said that she collapsed at work."

"The morning sickness got really bad; to the stage where she couldn't keep anything down. She wasn't just sick in the morning either; it was all day. The doctor says that she collapsed because her body wasn't getting enough energy to keep both her and the baby alive so it shut down.

"She didn't miscarry, did she, Fox? Maggie said worriedly.

"No she didn't. Thankfully we got her here in time."

"Good. But I still don't see why it's your fault."

"I should have seen it. I should have known that there was something wrong. I should have made her see her doctor."

"How where you supposed to know, Fox? You've never had any children?" Mulder didn't have an answer to that. "See, you couldn't have known. Maybe Dana should have noticed, being a doctor but she was probably too happy to realize." Mulder smiled, she was right, but then Mrs. Scully was always right. "Come on," she said, "We'd better go back to Dana's room before she wakes up."

Scully's hospital room 10:45

Mrs. Scully entered her daughters' room quietly as not to disturb her. However Scully was already awake. She turned to face her Mother.

"Mom, where's Mulder?"

"He's just getting us both a coffee. He blames himself y'know? Dana, why did you let it get so bad -- you're a doctor you should have known something was wrong!"

"I know. I was just so happy; I didn't want to consider the possibility that there was anything wrong -- I wanted it to be perfect."

"Oh Dana, it's already perfect because this child is a product of the pure, unconditional love that you and Fox share."

"I guess you're right Mom,"

"Of course she's right," Mulder said as he re-entered the room, "she's you're Mother." They all laughed at this and talked for a few minutes before Mulder turned serious.

"Mrs. Scully, could you give us a minute please." Mrs. Scully could sense that he and Dana needed to talk so she did as Mulder asked and left.

Scully could see that something was bothering Mulder so she asked, "Mulder, what's wrong sweetheart?"

"Skinner knows and, come to think of it, so does half the Bureau."

"Need I ask how they found out?" Scully replied sarcastically

"I'm sorry babe, but I was so worried about you and Skinner was unconcerned so I had to tell him. Unfortunately, there were about 50 other people around at the time, which means that by now," he glanced at his watch, "half the bureau knows."

"It's okay Mulder, we knew it would come out eventually and I'm sure it shocked no-one -- they all think we've been at it for years anyway." This made Mulder laugh. "What did Skinner say?"

"He said we needed to talk, that he would pop in later to see you and then he congratulated me!"

"He congratulated you!"

"Yeah, it shocked me as well, but that's what he said!"

"Well, we can't expect there not to be any repercussions at work though."

"True, but whatever happens I'll always love you."

"I know, and I'll always love you too."

Mulder leaned in to kiss Scully and at that same time AD Skinner entered the room. He cleared his throat and Mulder and Scully jumped apart at the sound of the superior's voice, "If I'm interrupting something I can come back later, he said trying to hold back his amusement at their behavior.

"No sir, it's fine", said Mulder. "Come on in."

"Thanks Mulder. How are you feeling Agent Scully?"

"I'm feeling a little better. I'm still a bit tired though."

"Of course. Don't worry I'm not planning on staying long. I just popped in to see how you were and to inform you that OPR have called a hearing for next week to, and I quote 'review the situation at hand'"

"Which basically means that they're going to separate us?" asked Mulder while squeezing Scully's hand supportively.

"Agent Mulder, while OPR do have the authority to separate you at work, they have no jurisdiction over your private lives outside of the bureau."

Scully seemed concerned by this and asked, "Sir, if they were to separate us, what would that mean for the X files?"

Skinner visibly stiffened at Scully's question. He cleared his throat and said, "If a suitable partner is found for Agent Mulder then the X files will remain open. If, however, nobody suitable is found, or Agent Mulder refuses to take on another partner," he looked at Mulder knowingly and continued, "then the X files will be closed...permanently."

Mulder and Scully sighed. There was a long silence, after which Scully was the first to speak, "Mulder, we have to tell them that this baby isn't yours and that we are not and never have been, involved." Mulder's eyes widened with shock as Scully's words sank in.

"You are joking right Scully?"

"No. It's the only chance we have of keeping the X files open."

"Are you mad!?! I don't care about the X files. You and this baby are far more important than them Scully and I will not deny my feelings for you or this baby's parentage. I love you."

"I love you too but what about Samantha. She's your sister Mulder -- you have to find out what happened to her, you owe it to her to bring justice to these people." Mulder mumbled something under his breath that Scully didn't quite catch. "What did you say Mulder?"

"I said that I know what happened to my sister. I saw her!"

"What? When?" asked Scully.

Skinner chose this point to interject, "I'll be going then. I'll see you at the hearing next week, you are both to stay off work until then."

"Well Mulder? When did you see your sister and more importantly why didn't you tell me?"

Mulder sighed, "It was when you were sick, last year. Cancerman brought her to me Scully. We talked for a while but in the end she didn't want to know me."

"How do you know it was really her? We've been fooled before, Mulder. How can you be sure?"

"I had the Gunmen run a check on her, well on the name she's using. There are no records of her before she was 10, when she turned up in a hospital in Sacramento, California. Her father, Cancerman, came to see her claiming that they had been separated while out camping! I know it doesn't sound plausible Scully but the hospital believed it. The picture of the girl in the hospital, I've seen it Scully, I have a copy," he removed a photo from his wallet, "it's her there's no denying it." Scully gasped as she looked at the picture. "As for why I didn't tell you. I only had the Gunmen run the check a few weeks ago and I was trying to get my own head around it before I told you, but then you found out you were pregnant and everything else kinda took a backseat. I'm sorry Scully. It was just so hard knowing that she didn't want to see me again. I kept telling myself that it wasn't really her, that it was just one of Cancerman's tricks but the more I thought about it the more I saw the family resemblance and the more I remembered the connection when we spoke. So I had the Gunmen do a check on the name I had. They don't know what they found -- I never told them who she was. If they looked at the picture and realized, they've never said anything.

"I'm so sorry, Mulder. You've spent your whole life looking for her, to have her reject you must really hurt."

"She's got kids, Scully, a girl and a boy. I'm an uncle but my niece and nephew don't even know me."

"More importantly," Scully took Mulder's hand and placed it on her stomach, "you are a Dad. And I want your son or daughter to know you so, if you're sure, we will tell OPR the truth. We will not deny this child's parentage. I love you Fox William Mulder and I will not deny it."

"And I love you too Dana Katherine Scully." He leaned in to kiss her and this time he got to complete the kiss. Then a thought suddenly came to him and he pulled away.

Scully looked at him with a worried look on her face. Mulder was just sat there with a really big grin on his face.

"What are you grinning about Mulder?" Mulder took Scully's hand and said,

"Would you, Dana Katherine Scully do me the great honor of becoming my wife?" Scully's eyes widened and her mouth dropped open when she realized Mulder was proposing. "Scully, you are actually supposed to say something. C'mon let's give this baby a proper family. What d'ya say? Will you marry me?" A grin broke out on Scully's face that was nearly as big as Mulder's.

"YES!! Yes of course I will, Mulder."

"What?!?" Mulder couldn't believe it.

"Yes," repeated Scully, "of course I'll marry you!"

The End What -- you didn't think she'd say no did you?????????
