Title: Before Trick or Treat
Summary: Mulder and Scully get their kids ready to go trick or treating.
"Daddy's home!" shrieked four-year-old William, running toward Mulder.
Sometimes I missed work, but I would be going back after Sarah turned three months old next week.
"Hey Scully, let me take Sarah," he said, kissing her on the cheek. "Were you a good girl today Sarah? Were you good for Mommy?"
"I was good Daddy!" Will said.
"Good, otherwise you wouldn't be able to go trick-or-treating tonight!" Mulder said.
Today was Halloween and Will had been excited for the whole month, keeping him on his best behavior.
"You wanna go put on your costume to show Daddy?" I asked. Mulder hadn't seen Will's finished pirate costume yet.
"Yea!" he said, running to his room.
"How was your day?" Mulder asked.
"The usual, you?"
"Nothing much, we opened a case about-"
"Look Daddy! I'm a sailor!"
"Wow Will, you even have a peg leg! I can see why Mommy was so excited, you look like you could be Captain Ahab!"
I grinned, that was my favorite part.
"Who's that Mommy?"
"He's a character in one of my favorite books, I'll read it to you when you're a little older."
Sarah started fussing in Mulder's arms. William walked up to her and wrinkled his nose.
"Mommy, I think Sarah needs to be changed."
"Well since Mommy has been changing diapers all day, why don't I go do it?" Mulder said.
I smiled in relief. Though I loved my children, changing diapers was not my favorite thing in the world to do. William followed Mulder into Sarah's room and I started to pick up toys that were lying on the floor. After a couple minutes, William came out of the room giggling. "What's Daddy doing William?"
He couldn't respond, so I went into Sarah's room.
"Scully wait! Don't look yet, I'm not done," he said.
"What are you doing to our daughter?"
"Getting her ready for Halloween," he said, holding her up. "What do you think?"
Sarah was wearing a little alien costume.
"Mulder! You can't dress Sarah up like an alien!"
"Why not? She looks adorable and you know it."
He was right, unfortunately.
"Okay, fine. Sarah can be an alien."
How could I resist? Sarah was the cutest alien I had ever seen.
"Yes! Have I told you that I love you lately?" he said, kissing me.
"Mmm. Too bad we have to go eat dinner now," I said, smiling.
Dinner went by quickly, since William was on his best behavior. He knew that after dinner was candy.
"Can we go now Daddy?"
"I guess so!" Mulder said.
William excitedly grabbed his pumpkin for his candy and ran to the door. "Ready!" he shouted.
"One sec Will," Mulder said. "You can stay home if you want to Scully."
"Are you kidding? Let's go get some candy!"
