Marriage Two: "On the Road" by Juliettt@aol.com (July 20, 1995) Okay, this is just a little short piece -- really short this time -- that takes place after "Epithalamion" and "Wonders Wrought" and it is the second entry in the Marriage series. It takes place the day after the wedding on the drive up to Captain Scully's hunting cabin, where Mulder and Scully are spending their honeymoon. No real mush although there is UST (well, U in this piece, anyway, although there are, of course, implications), and it's rated PG. Oh, and Dana Scully (Mulder) and Fox Mulder and everyone else you recognize in this story (I have chosen the name "Brian" for the younger Scully brother) belong to Chris Carter and Ten-Thirteen Productions and FOX Broadcasting and Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny. I'm borrowing them with great love but without a speck of permission, though no infringement is intended. This story, however, is mine. ************************* "On the Road" by Juliettt@aol.com ************************* They drove in silence, making good time in the Corvette convertible Mulder had insisted on renting. "Why didn't you just go for the 380 Z while you were at it?" Scully had teased. "Because I think it says somewhere in our contracts, 'Thou shalt drive no import,'" he had laughed. "Well, Mulder, that would have been the perfect cover. . . ." Now, tooling down the highway at 65 MPH with the wind in his hair, he looked over at her, asleep in the passenger seat. He smiled at the gleam of gold on her finger. She had started out in the middle of the seat with her head on his shoulder but that had been too distracting for both of them. After they had had to pull over -- twice -- he had suggested they might get to their destination a lot sooner if she stayed on the other side of the car from him. Now, watching her, he wasn't so sure it made all that much difference. "Fox." He jumped. She opened her eyes and smiled at him. "Keep your eyes -- and preferably your mind -- on the road, okay?" "If you want me to keep my mind on the road, you won't call me 'Fox'." Still, he swung his gaze to the highway, so he heard rather than saw the smile in her voice as she responded. "All right," she agreed softly. There was a long silence. He could feel her watching him, her gaze like a caress on his skin. "Scully . . ." he said warningly. "What?" He glanced over at her. Her eyes were warm. "You're staring at me," he choked. "One of the amenities of letting you drive, Mulder. And you sound just like Brian. He used to complain on long trips that Melissa was 'touching' him." "Was she?" She laughed. "Of course. Then when Mom made her stop she would sit there and just stare at him. Then he'd complain that she was 'looking at' him. And *then* Dad would stop the car and either Bri or Mel would wind up in the front seat between Mom and Dad, which is what they both wanted all along, of course." He grinned and nodded. She continued to stare at him, her eyes tracing the contours of his profile in the fading light of evening. "Mom, she's *touching* me!" "I am not!" Scully yelped in surprise. "Feels like it," he said softly. He heard her swallow, hard. "Fox, stop the car. . . ." *END* ;-D Juliettt's Marriage Series: "Epithalamion" "Wonders Wrought" (2 parts) "Waking" "On the Road" "Watching the Storm" -30-
