Title: Tell Me A Story! Author: kenikigenikai Category: challenge Fic Summary: Emily demands a "file" bedtime story. ** "Mo-meee!" Emily shouted, whilst shoving her arms through the holes in her pyjama top. "Yes, sweetie?" Scully replied walking into the room "Are you ready for bed yet?" "Yup! All done!" "Okay, do you want a story?" "Yes!" "How about the very hungry caterpillar?" "No! Tell me a real story!" "Uh..." Scully looked baffled for a moment. Emily sighed impatiently "A file story." "Huh?" "A file story!" Emily repeated. "I don't understand honey, what's a 'file' story?" "Like da wormman and big blu!" "Oh," Scully murmured, "You mean like cases? Things that Daddy and I investigated?" "Yup, Da-dee tells me dem!" "Does he now?" Scully raised an eyebrow. "Yes!" Emily explained exasperatedly, thumping down onto the bed. "Now, tell me a story!" She tugged on Scully's hand. "Alright, alright." Scully helped the little girl into bed, pressed a kiss to her forehead, then curled up next to her. "Uh, well one time, about two years and a half ago, Daddy and I went on a case, I thought it was stupid and, as you can guess Daddy did not." She rolled her eyes. "We were looking for Bigfoot!" Mulder snuck into the apartment, takeaway bags in hand. He kicked off his shoes, and glanced around guiltily before sighing and picking them up with his free hand and placing them in the shoe cupboard by the door. He and Scully had come to an agreement: if he lived with her then he had to drop some of his bachelor-ist traits. He had practically jumped at the chance to move in and so far had done pretty well to stick to her rules, even if he did say so himself. After placing the Chinese on the table, he crept to Emily's door and watched Scully talking to the little girl, telling her a story. "…and then the Detective Timpson warned us that their had been some attacks, a wild animal had hurt some people-" "Actually," Mulder cut her off, his eidetic memory assisting him to remember the case from only the detective's name. "He said that Bigfoot had hurt some people." She raised an eyebrow. "Really? I don't remember that." "He did," Mulder insisted. "But Bigfoot isn't real," Emily chimed in. "He is," Mulder told her. "No, Daddy, Bigfoot is made up!" She wore a look of cynical disbelief that Mulder had witnessed from her mother on many occasions. Scully burst out laughing. "What's funny Mommy, I don't get it!" Emily asked indignantly. "Nothing, sweetie." "What happened next?" The little girl asked. "Well then we went up the mountain looking for whatever creature hurt the people." "I'll go put dinner in the oven, keep it warm," Mulder interjected quietly, placing a hand on her shoulder. "'Kay." Scully smiled up at him, he gave her a swift kiss on the lips then placed a kiss on Emily's forehead. "...and then the 'Bigfoot' jumped out at us, Daddy shot at it but..." "What? What? What?" Emily was practically jumping up and down. "He missed!" "No..." "Yes." "Only just," Mulder added from the kitchen. "A miss is a miss, honey," Scully replied playfully. "Whatever you say, G-woman." "Oh, I do babe, I do." She smirked to herself. "Okay, where was I?" she teased the little girl. "Daddy missed Bigfoot and he was coming to get you!" Emily said quickly. "Oh yes. Then I shot at it, all six rounds, at least four hit him." "It was a boy?" Emily interrupted. "No, I'm not sure actually," Scully said. "Well, it fell to the floor, we rushed over to it and, and, and…" Mulder walked back into the room. "It was actually a wolf!" "No way!" Emily exclaimed enthralled. "Yes way." He smiled at her. "It was," Scully added. "Whoa." "Kay sweetie, time for bed!" "Ah Mom!" "C'mon Emily," Mulder said. "Bedtime." She yawned. "F-f-fine." "I love you," Scully reminded her, before pressing a kiss to the little girl's cheek. "Love you too." "Want me to dish up?" Scully asked walking past Mulder. "Yeah. I'll tuck her in." "'Kay." Mulder crouched down by the small bed. "Night Emmy, love you." She wrapped her arms around his neck "Love you Daddy. Nighty nights" She lay back down, while he smoothed the bedding around her. He got up and flicked off the light. "N...night..." Emily murmured. "Night princess." He smiled as she succumbed to sleep. Scully was just carrying two plates to the table when he shut Emily's door quietly. "Is she?" "Like a light." "That's good." She smiled flirtatiously at him. "I do believe it is." He placed his hands on her waist. She looped her arms around his neck and he pressed his mouth to hers. Fireworks exploded behind her eyes and she smiled into the kiss. He tangled his hands in her hair. They broke apart for air. "Mmm." She grinned up at him. "I love you," he murmured. "Love you too," she purred, leading him into the bedroom. They collapsed on the bed (after locking the door), laughing, moaning and screaming. But quietly. ** "Momeee," Emily whispered in Scully's ear. "Huh?" Scully sat up, pulling the sheet with her. "Mommy?" "Yeah Baby, I'm awake." "Where are the Bigfoots?" "Wha?" "Look!" Emily dumped her backpack on the bed "I'm going to catch a Bigfoot for Daddy!" "Oh! Emily, the Bigfoot doesn't live around here!" "He doesn't? Are you sure it's a boy Mommy?" "Yes, Baby, I'm pretty sure. What were you bringing anyway?" Emily emptied the bag. Out rolled a torch, some batteries, three pairs of socks and a selection of candy "Bigfoots eat candy," Emily informed her. "Do they?" "Uh-hu" "Oh okay." "Emily?" Mulder murmured groggily. "I'm going to catch a Bigfoot!" "No you're not." "Why Mommy?" "Because they don't live around here." "Really? Where do they live?" Scully sighed "Not around here." "But where?" "I don't know," Scully replied exasperatedly. "Oh..." She stood there looking disheartened. "Do you want to get in with us?" "Yes please." "Just go put your bag back in your room first." "Okay Mommy." She ran out of the room. "Mulder." She poked him "Mulder! Get up!" "What..? Why..?" "Emily's coming to sleep with us, you need to get dressed!" "Oh crap..." "Get up!" "I'm going!" They scrambled around their room, grabbing the nearest pyjamas. Emily walked back in, teddy to hand, just as they were diving back in bed. Scully held back the duvet, allowing the small girl to clamber up next to her. "Night Em," she murmured. "Goodnight, Emmy." Mulder leaned over Scully to whisper in the girl's ear. "Night Scully." He kissed her briefly on the lips. They fell asleep as the happy family, they had never expected to be. The End
