Title: Just Before Author: Kyselyea kyselyea@hotmail.com Classification: MSR Rating: NC-17 Keywords: Scully/other, eventually Scully/Mulder Spoilers: There are a few, but they're so tiny, you probably won't even notice. Summary: Mulder becomes desperate when Scully marries another man. Author's note: Okay, this is just a bit of randomness that came to me when I was cleaning out my closet and found an *old * Tommy Page *tape*. 'Who is Tommy Page?' you ask. Well, he was a guy who had one tape and not even a hit (although he did a guest appearance on Full House); back in the days when New Kids on the Block were popular. Ahhh! NKOTB were popular? That is scary. Anyway, one of the songs on his tape is really sappy (actually, all of them are) but this one had potential for being X-File fluff. While I've seen many of the 'songs' stories (and I don't particularly like them) I decided to do this one, cause it's so easy! However, this one has a plot so be prepared to leave. So if you just clicked on this story for the little 'A' beside it, sorry. Yes, there are some graphic descriptions of sex, probably not very good, but they're in here none the less. This is not a plot story that is an X-File though. This is pure relationship stuff. Sorry! The relationshippy ones are the easiest to write and this is my first posting. So, tell me if it sucks and I shouldn't post anymore. My e-mail address is kyselyea@hotmail.com. One more note, I decided to leave out the 'side effects' of Scully's abduction 'cause otherwise my story would make no sense. So, Scully never had a kid, or her ovum stolen. They've been through the same stuff and are as close, but I need Scully to be able to get pregnant. ;-) Alrighty, here goes. Hope it isn't too bad. Oh, and some people may accuse me of steeling from Ghost. I did. What are you going to do about it? Disclaimer: Not mine. CC's, Fox, 20th Century No infringement No profit No sue All good ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Dana Scully watched her partner from across the room as he tried unsuccessfully to explain to the AD why Prehistoric Bug Repellent was a good idea. She sighed and shifted in her chair as she watched Mulder use his hands in wild gesticulations to illustrate how bad the problem was. The case where they had taken that nice trip to the woods was three or four years ago. They were headed to the same area and Mulder wanted to be prepared. Scully wasn't as worried. She wouldn't be going. Getting the time off from work would be a breeze. Telling Mulder why she wouldn't be joining them, was an entirely different matter. When they finally left Skinner's office, Mulder was pouting out that lovely lower lip of his. Scully had a fleeting thought that maybe her decision was wrong. She had to find out. When they arrived at their office, Mulder sat down and pouted some more. Scully approached him with an odd look on her face. He looked up her. The dim light was outlining her head. She looked like an FBI agent in bad lighting. But a pretty one. He noticed her pensive expression and asked, "Is something wrong?" "No, not wrong. I just have something to tell you." Mulder looked at her for a second then tilted his head to the side. "I have something to tell you too." "Well, you go first." "No, cause see, that always happens. Two people have to tell each other something, and the wrong person goes first and some whole issue is dragged out for months. Believe me, Scully, whatever you have to say won't have any real effect on what I'm going to say." "I don't know, Mulder." "No, go on. You go." Scully took in a deep breath. "I won't be going with you on the trip to the woods," she kept going before he could speak, "because I'm going to be getting married." Scully held her breath until she couldn't any longer and it came in a whoosh. Mulder still hadn't said anything, but just looked at her with a completely blank expression. "Mulder?" Scully asked tentatively. Mulder blinked his eyes and shook his head. "What?" "For awhile now, I've been seeing a guy named Peter Hires. I didn't tell you because I didn't think it would really develop into anything. But, then things got more complicated. Then one night he just asked me to marry him. I'm 34 years old. My mother had her last child when she was 35. I need to; I want to, have a real life. Peter loves me. And I love. He's wonderful. The kind of man every woman dreams of. I think I'm going to be really happy with him. I can see myself with him forever. The wedding is for next week. If you can get off from this assignment, I'd love for you to come. I." "I don't think I'll be able to get off. Will you still be working for the Bureau?" "Of course. I'm still going to be with you and the X-Files. Nobody could ever take me away from yo.my work. I love it." Mulder gave a small smile. "I'm happy for you Scully. It's about time you realized you're important enough to be happy. I'm really happy." There was a loud silence that followed as the two agents stared awkwardly at each other. "So, what did you want to tell me?" "Nothing important. Just that I already bought the bug repellent. I'll be alright. You go have the best day of your life." Mulder stood up and walked over to her. They weren't quite sure what to do, so Mulder decided for them. He took her hand in his and looked at for a moment before he pulled her to him and hugged her tight. "Congratulations, Scully. I'll always be here for you. And remember, if he ever does anything to hurt you, both your brothers and I will be out to break off his legs and other vital parts." Scully gave a small laugh. It was a long time before the friends parted from the other's embrace. *** Mulder didn't look up when he heard Mrs. Peter Hires walk through the door. She went to the coat rack, deposited her trench coat, and walked to her desk. Mulder finally looked up. She appeared the same. Except she had the glow of a woman who'd had a good two weeks worth of screwing. Mulder pushed that thought aside and stood up smiling. "Can I still call you Scully. Or are you Hires?" "Scully. I'm still Dr. Dana Katherine Scully." Mulder smiled and reached for her hand. There were two rings on it. A gold band with a small diamond and a another gold band with three amethysts. "So, he went for sentiment instead of money?" "No, it's what I requested. I love my birthstone." Mulder nodded and said softly, "I know." And then louder, "Is your new life working out?" "It's going wonderful." "So, is he any good in the sack?" Scully tried her hardest not to smile, but failed. She decided not to answer him. "Well, when do I get to meet your new husband?" "I was hoping you'd come over for dinner tomorrow night." Mulder nodded. "Sure that'd be great. What does * Peter* do anyway?" "He is the advising agent for a large investment firm." "What does he *do *?" "He travels to other businesses and tells them about the company and tries to get them to invest in it." "He's a traveling salesman?" "No, he's an advising agent." Mulder grinned, "Okay, Scully. Whatever." "He is!" "I know." Mulder chuckled as he walked back to his desk. "He *does * travel a lot though, right?" "Yes, he does." "That's gotta put a strain on a relationship. Both of you always traveling. You could end up being just two ships passing in the night." "No, Peter's company is very flexible. He can arrange it so he only has to travel when I do." "That's.Great." "Yeah, it is." "So, no more calls at three in the morning huh? Just to tell you I can't sleep." "You can always call me. Anytime. *Always *. Except when the baby's born." Mulder whipped his head up to look at her. Scully laughed, "No, not yet. But hopefully soon. I mean, the older I get, the larger the chance for problems." Mulder decided he couldn't listen any longer. He ended the conversation by mumbling something about coffee and leaving the room. Scully watched him leave. She watched for ten minutes. He didn't come back. She sighed and started to work. *** Mulder fiddled with his fingers as he waited for someone to answer the door. Since she had gotten married, Scully had moved into a large townhouse from her apartment. Mulder heard footsteps approaching and hoped to God it was Scully. The door opened. Well, that's what he got for skipping church. A man a few inches shorter than Mulder smiled wanly at him. He had blonde hair and unexpressive blue eyes. Nothing like Scully's. He invited Mulder inside and the two stood awkwardly until Scully came from downstairs a few seconds later. She smiled and hugged him. "Glad you could make it. Mulder, this is my husband, Peter Hires. Peter, this is my partner and friend, Fox Mulder." The two men shook hands and Scully pushed them into the living room while she went into the kitchen. Mulder sized Hires up in a few seconds and decided Scully deserved better. They talked about the weather (of all things) then some politics. Finally, they got to the sports. The Knicks were a decided favorite. Mulder decided that maybe Hires wasn't as big a jerk as he originally thought. The dinner went relatively well. Scully seemed genuinely happy with Mulder being her friend and Hires being her husband. Mulder had made up his mind what to do about their relationship. *** It was a couple of months before Mulder had the chance to put his plan into affect. Hires had to make a trip out of town and Scully and Mulder were stuck with some backed up paperwork. Mulder had come over to Scully's to work and they went long into the night. Much longer than either had anticipated. Mulder kept wanting to finish up one little detail on something or other. It was almost as if he was trying to delay something. Around one o'clock, they decided to call it quits. Mulder got up stretching is legs. Scully walked him to the door. "Bye, Mulder. See you tomorrow." "Yeah, tomorrow. Umm, there's something I want to give you first." "What?" Mulder pulled an envelope out of his pocket. There was something hard and rectangle in it. He handed it to her and walked out the door closing it behind him. Scully looked at the door for a moment then opened the envelope. There was a tape inside. She turned it over, but there were no markings. She walked over to the stereo system, which thankfully still put tape players in them with the advancing technology. She placed the tape in and pushed play. A slow, rock song started. She didn't pay much attention to the lyrics at first. / And I recall the night, when my heart was shattered in two. It took me so long, to find my thoughts, express it to you./ Scully stopped and turned back to the player as she listened to the song unfold. / I've waited all my life, thinking love would never come my way. When right before my eyes, you killed my dreams with what you had to say./ Dana moved closer to the couch, because she had a feeling her legs were going to fail her in a second. She listened more carefully to the soulful words. / And it took me some time to find the words, but I didn't get the chance to be heard. You told me, just before I was about to say that I need you. Just before I was about to show my love was true. You said that you were seeing another love, someone you'd been dreaming of. All this time I never knew. You told me, just before, just before, just before, I was gonna say, 'I love you'./ Scully's legs buckled and she fell to the couch. Tears threatening to fall. The rest of the song softly washed over her as she contemplated its meaning. / All in one moment, I lost visions of Heaven to be. I said to myself, 'I was happier being lonely.' Cause love is the most pain I've ever felt. My heart is aching and my soul just melts. And just before I was about to say that I need you. Just before I was about to show my love was true. You said that you were seeing another love, someone you'd been dreaming of. All this time I never knew. You told me, just before, just before, just before, I was gonna say, 'I love you.' And it took me some time to find the words, but I didn't get the chance to be heard. You told me just before I was about to say, 'I need you.' Just before I was about to show, my love was true. You said that you were seeing another love, someone you'd been dreaming of. All this time I never knew. You told me, just before, just before, just before, I was gonna say, 'I love you.' / Scully stared at the tape player as it reached the end of the reel and stopped. The clicking penetrated her mind and she walked over to her door. She leaned against the hard, cool metal for many long minutes before she quietly opened it. Mulder was leaning against the hood of his car with his hands in his pocket and his eyes closed. Scully opened her mouth, but nothing came out. After a few tries, she realized she was trying to say Fox. But that wasn't right at all. In fact, it was down right stupid. "Mulder?" Mulder's eyes opened slowly and he looked at his partner, standing barefoot in jeans and a sweatshirt in the doorway of the house that she shared with her husband. Only seconds passed (although it seemed like an eternity) before she raised her hand and turned it palm up. Mulder slowly walked to her. He placed his hand on hers, and she pulled him close and hugged him. Mulder couldn't wait any longer. He had to kiss her. He leaned down and placed his lips on hers. They were barely even touching, but the breath of the other and the warmth of their bodies stoked the flame that always been burning. Scully threaded her fingers through his hair and pulled him down to her violently. Mulder responded by thrusting his tongue into her already open mouth. He wrapped his arms around her and lifted her up. She wrapped her legs around his waist and Mulder stepped through the door and slammed it shut with his foot. Once inside Mulder fell back against the door as Scully leaned against him. She ran her fingers through his short hair. For some reason, it was extremely erotic to her. Their mouths were hungrily eating the other. She pulled on his lower lip and sucked on it. Mulder made an effort to push away from the door and head to her bedroom. Only, he didn't know where that was. "Um, Scully." "The wall is fine, Mulder" Her voice had a hard edge to it and she was pushing onto his erection with her hips. Mulder turned to the nearest wall and slammed her against it. He was happy there hadn't been any pictures on the wall. All coherent thought fled his brain, however, when she reached down and put her hand under the waistband of his jeans and went straight for his throbbing penis. Mulder unzipped Scully's jeans and got them and her panties as far as her ankles before she brought her legs up to his waist. She pulled down his zipper roughly. Mulder gave a yelp. "Oh, poor Mulder. Got too big for his britches." "Bitc." Scully kissed his lips and pushed down his jeans. The hand that was still on him, guided him inside her. He stopped just as his tip penetrated her. "No, you have to be sure." "God, Mulder, I've been sure for years." Mulder pushed his hips up hard and he slid completely in her. They both groaned and leaned against each other. Scully locked her heels below his ass on his thighs. He started to move in her. As their tongues thrust in and out of the other's mouth, Mulder slid in and out of her. It didn't take long of pounding against the wall before both came almost painfully hard. The quick release they had just had was enough to sate them temporarily. "Your room, Scully." "Upstairs, last door on the right." Mulder walked up the stairs with himself still inside her. The movement caused both of them to become almost fully aroused again. Mulder turned into the room and they both fell onto the bed. And began to wobble like they were on Jell-O. "A waterbed, Scully?" "I said 'right' you idiot. This is for Peter's mother, she has back problems. But this is fine for us." "Uh-huh. We could end up in traction for weeks." Mulder gave a small wince. "Trust me." To get off the bed, Mulder had to leave Scully. Scully voiced her disapproval with a little grunt. He pulled her off the bed and held her like a baby in his arms. He walked across the hall and set her down on the more solid bed in the room. She reached for him, but Mulder pulled her hands away. He pushed her further on the bed and sat down in front of her. He pulled her sweatshirt over head and reached for her small, round breasts that were heaving from her labored breathing. The silk under his fingers felt sticky from the sweat that made it cling to her chest. He undid the front clasp and pushed the garment off her shoulders. He leaned down and took her nipple in his mouth and sucked and gave little nips. Scully groaned and leaned over him to whisper in his ear. "Mulder, I want nothing more than to spend hours doing just this, but I need you again, now." Mulder sat up and looked in her eyes. Blue met hazel somewhere through the glaze that had formed over them. Mulder kissed her gently on the lips and then pulled her jeans off her ankles. Scully parted their kiss long enough to pull his shirt over his head. Once that barrier was removed, she pressed her self against him. Their chests were rising and falling quickly, causing friction between their bodies. She pushed his jeans and boxers off his legs and as he pulled out of them, he stretched out on top her. Mulder pulled at Scully's lower lip and he slowly slid into her. He went deeper than before and he started to have trouble breathing from all the emotions and sensations assaulting him. Scully ran her hand down his face and calmed him with her voice. Mulder moved his hips and the two fell in a rhythm that seemed so familiar, no matter how new. Mulder thrust into her as fast and hard as both their bodies would allow. He was almost sure he wouldn't be able to hold out any longer when he felt her clutch at his shoulders and scream his name. Her vaginal walls closed down on him and he shuddered into her. Scully felt him come into her. It was hot and pooled in her abdomen. It was the best thing she had ever felt in her life. They slowed down together and Mulder opened his eyes to watch her try to come back to reality. She was beautiful. He could only imagine what she looked like when she came. He buried his face in her breasts and moved most of his weight off her. They fell asleep in each others arms and both slept deeply, undisturbed by dreams or phone calls. *** When Scully awoke, she saw the face of her lover staring down at her. Her lover. She reached up and stroked his face. "I love you." "Ditto." "Figures. What? No breakfast in bed." "Well, I don't know about you, but I'm looking at mine." Scully smiled and let him kiss her. He made his way down her neck, her chest, her stomach, and her abdomen. She took in a breath when she felt him kiss her folds. He spread them apart with two fingers and began to lick her. She was already wet and he drank from her. He found her clitoris and played with it mercilessly, but kept backing off before she went over from his teasing. She grabbed his head and held it to her, forcing him to finish. She felt his smile against her as he slid one finger, and then another into her. He pulled on her clitoris and moved his fingers in a steady rhythm until she fell over into oblivion. Mulder watched her face and was in complete awe as he dragged her pleasure out as long as he could. He sat up and licked off his fingers. Then he leaned down to kiss her, running his tongue along her teeth and the sides of her mouth. He sat back and watched her lie there. "And how are we this fine morning." "Okay." "Okay?" Scully smiled and said, "I just thought you wouldn't like all the mushy stuff. Like, 'Oh! It was absolutely wonderful. I think I caught a glimpse of Heaven.' You know, stuff like that." "It doesn't matter what you say. As long as you say it to me." "Well, that does bring up an interesting point." "What? Oh yeah, Peter." "Yes, Peter." "Well, tell Peter, it's not working out. Get a divorce, or get it annulled, and marry me." "Marry you?!" "Is that such an insane idea?" They looked at each other for a moment. "Yes," came the unison reply. They both smiled. "Always in my head, Scully. No, marriage. Not now. But you do realize that you're mine, and I never learned how to share." "Me either. I just. How do you divorce someone?" "Tell him you fucked another man?" "Mulder, is that what last night was?" "God! No, not at all." Mulder leaned down and reassured her with his lips. His hands started to remind her as well, but she stopped him. "No. Not until we talk." Mulder grunted and pulled away from her. "Then don't touch, or I won't be held responsible for my actions." "Mulder, Peter and I signed a prenuptial. If either us was.unfaithful, we had to give three quarters of our assets to the other and full custody of any children. I can't support myself with only one quarter of my assets." "I'd support you." "I don't want to be known as a slut." "Scully, no one would ever think you were slut. Everyone knows he could never satisfy you." Scully smiled smugly, "Actually, he's quite good, Mulder. He goes slow and gentle and makes sure his partner is fully satisfied." Mulder looked like a little puppy that had just been ditched on the side of the road. Scully smiled at his reaction. She moved toward him and circled his neck with her arms. "Aw, Mulder, you of all people ought to know I like rough." Mulder smiled and showed her just how rough he could be. Forty-five minutes later, Scully sat up and moved away from him. "Mulder, we still don't have a solution to our problem." "Yeah, but we just had a really, really intense." "Hush. I haven't time for your vulgarities." "No?" Mulder showed Scully how much fun vulgarities could be. Ninety minutes later, Scully got up and fully dressed herself. She looked at Mulder with disappointment and annoyance as he smiled back languidly and watched her sit in front of him. "We have been having fun all morning. It's one o'clock. We have decide something." "Just tell him you want a divorce." "But, he'll want a reason." "Tell him you don't have one. He'll believe it. Trust me. Women rarely have reasons anyway." Scully leaned over and hit him. Mulder grabbed her arms and pulled her on top of him. Scully soon found herself naked again. "How do you do that, Mulder?" Scully asked lying spent in his arms. "A magician never reveals his secrets." Scully smiled as she rested her head on his chest. She ran her index finger over his chest in little circles. "Mulder, you'll have to give me time. It's going to take awhile. Maybe weeks. I'm no good at this. You'll have to be patient." "I'll try, Scully. Anything for you. You know that. Just don't take too long. While I'm willing to wait forever for you, a little nagging thing called death isn't." "I know. I love you." "Ditto." *** Two months later, Scully walked into their office timidly and prayed Mulder wasn't there. Of course, though, where else would he be? Scully walked to his desk and stared at the alien paperweight that had been a gift from the Gunmen. She was going to miss them. "Scully? Are you alright?" Scully shook her head and Mulder leapt from his chair to her side. He stood close, but did not touch her. "They" were always watching. He watched her for a moment and waited for her to start. He knew she would when she was ready. Eventually, he barely heard her whisper. "Mulder, the night before we, when we, before Peter left for Portland, we tried one more time. I mean, we both want this baby. It turns out, that one time was finally what we wanted. I'm.I'm pregnant. It's what we both wanted for awhile. And it finally happened. I can't stay in fieldwork with a baby. I can't.Peter was offered a job in Idaho. There is an FBI.that I can work.God, Mulder, I can't stay around you if I can't have you." Mulder contemplated all this and waited to regain his composure before speaking. He was grateful that she wasn't looking at him. Couldn't see the tears threatening to fall. When he did speak, his voice still quavered and then cracked some. "You know, that I would love that child like mine own." "Mulder, I know that. You would be a wonderful father. But, I can't do that to Peter. He deserves to have this child. And I can't, I can't leave her. I love her." "Scully, if you leave me again." He couldn't finish. He hadn't meant to make it sound so accusatory, but he couldn't let go without a fight. Even if he pulled some dirty tricks. Scully almost burst out sobbing, but she stopped herself. Not at work, not in front of Mulder. She turned away from him and tried to leave. Mulder grabbed her and pulled her to him. Crushing her into him. He kissed her savagely. Showing her had badly he wanted, needed her in his life. She kissed him back. Damn "Them" all to Hell. They had each other now. Scully stopped the kiss just in time, so they didn't end up doing it on the cold basement floor. Or knowing Mulder's sense of humor, his desk. She pulled away and walked to the door. She paused with her hand on the doorknob. She was waiting for him to say something, anything that make her change her mind and run back to him. He remained silent. She walked out the door and shut it behind her. She leaned against it and felt his body hit it as he fell against it. She could practically feel his breath on her neck. His hands reaching for her. Then, faintly, she heard the small whisper. "I love you." "Ditto." Dana Scully walked away and didn't look back. *** Seven months later, Dana Scully was laying in a hospital bed, feet in stirrups, squeezing her husband's hand into numbness, and silently cursing the male gender. Peter Hires was feeling better now that his hand was numb. He knew it was his fault his wife was in so much pain. He had delayed going to the hospital and they didn't get there in time to drug her up. He didn't think that she would have taken the drugs anyway, but she could legitimately blame him for the pain now. He was excited. His child was being born. Dana kept insisting that it was a girl. He didn't care. He just wanted his baby. And, he wanted his wife. That hadn't made love since the day the baby was conceived. It was as if she had taken a vow of celibacy. When they got to Idaho, she buried herself in her work, claiming that she had so much to do, being new. Then she claimed she was too big to try. And now that the baby was coming, it would take awhile for her to heal. He hoped it wouldn't be too long. He wanted her so bad. He loved her, and wanted to show it. She was a little sad about leaving DC, he knew. And she and her partner had some sort of fight or something. He didn't see her off at the airport. He felt bad for Dana. He knew they had a special bond. It came with the saving each other's lives part. He wanted to ask her to invite him out, or send her to him. They needed to resolve this. Dana let out a sharp cry and Peter decided to try something to distract her. He leaned down close to her and said, "Dana, honey, I can't wait to see our beautiful girl and her beautiful big blue eyes." Dana glared back at him and muttered, "All babies have blue eyes when they're born." She felt the final contraction and followed the doctor's instructed, "Push" She squeezed Peter's hand. It broke through the numbness, and her nails broke through the skin. Peter let out a silent whimper and fell to his knees beside the bed. Then a baby started to cry. Peter stood up to see. A nurse came forward though and ushered him forcefully out the door. She kept saying the baby didn't need to be around any blood but its own and took him to get his hand bandaged. The doctor put the baby in a blanket and handed it to Dana announcing, "It's a girl!" Dana held the small, wriggling form to her. The baby was crying. Its deep, dark hazel eyes stared up confused. Then they settled on her mother. And she stopped crying. The brown changed to a light hazel flecked with green. Dana stared at the eyes. The familiar eyes. And she looked at her daughter's full head of hair. Dark, soft hair that she could see on her eight-year-old daughter. Possibly in braids. She stared at her daughter. Fox Mulder's child. *** Dana felt a hand on her shoulder and looked up to see her husband grinning idiotically at her. He reached out for the baby and Dana handed her over to him. His smile grew bigger, if it was at all possible and he almost started to cry. "Wow, look at those eyes! My pretty girl! Have you ever seen eyes like these before?" Dana whispered, "Yes," almost inaudibly. *** Title: Just Before Author: Kyselyea (kyselyea@hotmail.com) Classification: MSR Rating: NC-17 Keywords: Scully/other, eventually Scully/Mulder Spoilers: There are a few, but they're so tiny, you probably won't even notice. Have you ever seen eyes like these before?" Dana whispered, "Yes," almost inaudibly. *** Two days later, the hospital was ready to discharge Dana and her baby. She was going to have the nurse fill out the birth certificate now, while Peter was away. He had been called on urgent business and didn't know when he would be back. He had apologized profusely, but Dana insisted that she would be fine. The nurse came into her room and smiled at the little baby in Dana's arms. "Okay, Sweetie, I'll just need some basic information, okay? I need your name, Sweetheart. Alright?" "Dana Katherine, with a 'K', Scully." "Ok, and the father's name?" Scully looked at her hands, and then her baby. Her daughter should know who her father is. But Dana felt that she was going to chicken out. The nurse looked up when Dana didn't answer. "Honey? I need the father's name. Or should I put unknown?" "No. It's Mulder. Um, Fox William Mulder." She got it out before she could change her mind. She took in a deep breath and let it out. The nurse didn't seem to notice her discomfort. She merely said, "Fox? Well, with a name like that, I bet you had fun making that little angel." She winked at her, and Dana blushed. The nurse finished the rest of the usual questions, and then got to the most important. "Ok, Darling, have you decided on a name for Precious over there?" Peter and Dana had discussed names months before the baby was born. They had decided whether it was a girl or a boy, they would name it after Peter's brother. Michael if it was a boy, and Michelle if it was girl. Now that Dana knew the baby was Mulder's, it changed everything. She thought for a minute, then decided. "Ann, her name is Ann. Without the 'e'. Ann Michelle Mulder."The nurse smiled and wrote the name down. Within the hour, Dana was in her car and driving home. Ann laughed and giggled the whole way. At least she didn't get carsick. Dana had a whole week to herself with Ann. She got used to her baby's cries, if one could call them that. She never really cried, but she let out little shrieks. Each had a different pitch and Dana began to recognize what different sounds meant. It seemed odd to Dana, but then again, so was Ann's father. Ann was allergic to milk and could only drink water, and sometimes juice. Dana never remembered Mulder saying he was lactose intolerant, but she didn't know much about his family. Except for their conversation in the Peacock case, she had absolutely no insight to what Mulder's family was like, genetically anyway. When Peter returned home, it was late at night and Dana was in bed. She was close to the baby monitor. She heard the door open and shut. Peter tiptoeing around, trying not to make too much noise. She heard him sit on the couch for a moment. Then he was silent for a long, long time. She had left the birth certificate on the coffee table, and she knew that he had found it. Much later, Dana heard him ascend the stairs. He entered the room and slowly undressed. He slid into bed and stayed on his side. Dana thought that maybe he hadn't seen it. He'd fallen asleep on the couch and had just now drug himself up. And now, he was asleep again. Then she heard him speak. "I guess I always knew that you loved him. But I thought it was the kind that friends share. Best friends. I guess my mother was right. Best friends make the best lovers. I don't want to stand in your way. Or his. I know what it's like to be away from someone you love. We'll get the marriage annulled. There's still enough time. We could pretend this never happened. I won't take your money. I don't want it. But *Ann * is mine. I will have full custody of her and decide when you can visit. If you can live without your daughter, then go to him. If you can't, stay with me. I can make you happy." He was pleading now and turned to her. He embraced her from behind. He pulled her close and buried his head in her neck. "Please, Dana. I can love you better. I can keep you safer. I can give you your daughter. Don't let her grow-up without a mother. Pleases don't leave me." Dana gasped in her breath to keep from crying. She almost turned over to cradle him in her arms and promise never to leave him. But then she remembered *his * pleading cry. His eyes, that she thought her daughter had inherited. She had, but they weren't exactly the same. The changed shades from dark hazel, to light hazel, and a hazel flecked with green. Always hazel though. Never the so light clear shade that they almost seemed blue. Not a shade when it was a piercing green. Not the warm dark brown depths she could drown in. And definitely not the color so dark it was almost black. That almost made his pupils disappear. That was the most nerve wracking, and soul shattering. His eyes were like that when they burned with desire for something wonderful. His sister, the Truth, herself. She knew she couldn't live without him. She had been living a lie. And when you live a lie, eventually you start to believe it. That was the last thing she wanted. She'd said it herself, "All lies lead to the Truth." And now the truth was staring her in theeyes. Daring her to make her move. And she moved out of bed. "Peter, I'm so sorry. You have been nothing but wonderful to me. And I'm eternally grateful to you. You showed me how to understand love. But, I need him. He's my lifeline. I can't survive without him. I'm willing to give up my career, my sanity, even my life for that man. Now matter how much it pains me, I'm willing to give up my daughter for him. I need him with me, to be part of me. I need his support and understanding. I just need.him." Peter rolled to his stomach and Dana could see his shoulders shake with his sobbing in the dim light. She decided to leave him with his grief. She went to the guestroom and flopped down on the waterbed. She imagined Mulder wincing at the prospect of making love to her on it. He hadn't told her the story about it, but she intended to get it out of him. Then she thought, what if she never got anything out of him again? What if he rejected her and turned her away for what she had done to him? She hadn't even so much as e-mailed him since she left. He could be dead without her there to watch his back. Then she felt a sense of calm. As if he was there with her. She could feel his hands running over her body. Barely touching, teasing her. She let her hand roam where she thought she felt his. Eventually it led her hand down to her pajama bottom. She slid her hand under and followed Mulder's touch to her folds. They were already slightly damp from anticipation. She pushed her pajamas off and spread her legs apart, as if she were offering herself to Mulder. Dana felt his fingers on her she used her own to make it more real. She could feel him inside of her. She let him do as he pleased. Peter watched from the guestroom door as his wife fingered herself gasping out *his * name. He watched as she teased herself and then began to build toward her climax. She began to moan and toss her head. She kept repeating *his * name over and over. He watched as she finally mounted the top and fell over. Her breathing was harsh and labored. She had managed to have a more powerful orgasm masturbating than any time he had ever been with her. He turned away from her and let her have her moment. He looked at the small form sleeping in a crib. *His * baby. Somehow, that man had stolen is wife, his child, and his happiness in one night. Or he assumed it had been one night. Who knows how long they had been screwing each other. He returned to his bed and cursed true love. *** Nearly three thousand miles away, Fox Mulder started awake, gasping, sweating, and with a raging hard on. *** Dana stood outside Mulder's apartment. She had left Peter the following day of her confession. She was back in Virginia, two weeks later. She had no real job here, no place to stay, and possibly, no one to care. Well, her mother would let her in. She knew that much at least. But she needed Mulder. And she hoped he would take her back. Even if she had to beg on hands and knees. Dana gave a small knock on the door. She heard shuffling in the room. She heard him grab something and put it on. She had apparently awakened him. She shifted her weight from foot to foot as she awaited his arrival. Finally, he opened the door and they looked at each other. She saw so many emotions pass through his eyes. They changed shades. All the colors she knew and loved. First, a light hazel, surprise. Then the green, concern. The light blue, fighting with himself. Then they suddenly turned dark with his anger. Then the black. And he reached for her with both hands. He tried to bring himself to her, but only fell to his knees in front of her and clung to her like a child to his teddy bear. She stroked his head and held onto him. He wasn't crying. She didn't think he would allow her to see that again for a long time. She had a lot to earn back from him. When he finally stood up, he didn't give her chance to speak. He kissed her long and hard as he stepped back into his apartment. He pulled her onto the couch on top of him. He stared up at her as she straddled his boxer-only clad body. "Alright, show me how sorry you are." Dana leaned down and kissed him. Pulling on his bottom lip as her hands undid her shirt. She had to undress herself. Mulder was completely unwilling to do anything. She reached for his boxers and pulled them off. She settled herself on his erection and rubbed against it. She moved fast as her wetness covered him. Mulder groaned and shut his eyes. He grasped her forearms, but that was the only place he would touch her. She leaned down once more to kiss him as she lowered herself down on him. She went slowly and didn't stop until he was completely in her. She moved slowly at first and then picked up speed as her own need increased. She rode him as hard as she knew he liked it. She wanted to hold out, and let this be for him. But he was waiting for her. This wasn't a punishment for her, just a fine she owed. She allowed herself to be taken over by it. She was almost there when she felt his hands grasp her breasts and knead them. She climaxed and the suddenness of it sent her reeling. She didn't feel Mulder's own release and when she became aware of her surroundings, Mulder had her in his arms. She had her back to the couch and Mulder to her front. She felt complete again for the first time in a long time. They lay together, reveling in the feel in the other. Mulder was the first to speak. "What took you so damn long?" "I had to let a seven pound life form rip its way out of my body." "Where is it? Did you leave it at the door?" "No, I left her with Peter. I admitted to him about us. Because Ann." "Ann what? Is that what you named her?" "Yes, Ann Michelle." "That's pretty. What made you pick it?" Dana wasn't ready to tell him that Ann was his. She needed to see first if Peter had any legal claim on her, since Mulder's name was on the birth certificate. Dana missed Ann more than thought she possibly could. Mulder had filled some of that void; but there was still a huge emptiness inside of her. The knock on the door startled them both. Mulder reached for his gun, but Dana stopped him. She gave him a reproving "Don't be so paranoid" look. She found a pair of his boxers on the floor and pulled them on. Then his Knicks shirt. "Hey, don't take too long. And don't get anything on that shirt. It's worth more than your puny little life." Dana was smiling as she opened the door, but it quickly faded when she saw who was there. Her husband of past stood in front of her with Ann in his arms. He judged by Dana's clothing that *he * had taken her back. And they both had been rather enjoying it. He stood for a minute then placed Ann in Dana's arms. He put her baby bag on the floor. When he stood up, Dana was smiling at him with tears in her eyes. He leaned forward and kissed her cheek. He whispered in her ear, "Who am I to stand in the way of real love?" With that, he turned and left. Never to be seen again by his life's love's or his daughter's eyes. Mulder had gotten off the couch when there hadn't been conversation at the door and Dana hadn't returned. He had pulled on another pair of boxers and picked up his gun. He saw her standing in the door. When she turned around there was a baby in her arms and life in her eyes. Scully walked towards Mulder and offered him the baby. Mulder looked at it uneasily for a minute, then set his gun down, and reached for the child. He held it in his hands at arm length and tilted his head as he looked at it. Then he brought her against his chest and held her lovingly. Dana was surprised he had taken to her so well. Then she saw his eyes, looking straight at her. "Ann, she's mine. Isn't she?" Dana nodded. She walked to Mulder and put her arm around his waist. "I named her after Samantha. Ann was her middle name, right?" "Yeah, Samantha Ann. Ann Michelle. I guess the day of conception was figured wrong." "Yep. And it's all your fault you moron. If you had just gone first, none of this would have happened. So there." "No, Dana. It was suppose to happen like this. If I had told you I loved you then, we would have had more time to think and most likely used protection. It happened this way so that we could have Ann. It was meant to be." "Do you really expect me to believe that?" "No, but it'll be a great story to tell Ann when she's older." "Yeah, and put her in therapy for the rest of her adult life." Mulder smiled. He didn't really care. Of course, this did complicate things just a little. But, things in life rarely didn't. Dana took Ann from Mulder and held her again. "Um, Mulder?" "Yeah?" "How would you like to have a new Knicks shirt?" ******* End ******* Please e-mail all comments to me at kyselyea@hotmail.com. Thanks! Hope you enjoyed!
